Whose Recipe Are You Following?

Updated: May 10

How the world sets us up with the wrong ingredients—and how to reclaim the life God designed for you.

Person preparing ingredients on a kitchen counter, symbolizing life planning and reflection.

Imagine preparing a meal, carefully following a recipe you were given. You gather the best ingredients, measure everything precisely, and follow the instructions step by step. But what if, after all that effort, the dish doesn’t satisfy you? What if the flavors aren’t what you were craving—or worse, what if it leaves you undernourished?

That’s what many of us unknowingly do with our lives.

You might not realize it yet, but much of what you’re following may not be yours at all. From childhood, we’re handed a recipe—by school, culture, family, even church. We’re told which ingredients matter: success, performance, stability, approval. We’re expected to follow the same steps, in the same order, regardless of how we’re wired or what we truly need. And for families navigating neurodiversity, that mismatch can feel even sharper. What looks like a simple recipe for success often ignores the unique needs, rhythms, and wiring of both children and parents.

Without knowing what truly fulfills you—what your body and soul need—you could spend years perfecting a recipe that was never meant for you.

Not because it was wrong, but because it wasn’t right for you.

True fulfillment doesn’t come from following someone else’s formula or prescribed path—it comes from understanding yourself, knowing what truly nourishes you, and creating a life that’s uniquely yours.

Many of us learn—sometimes the hard way—that true fulfillment only comes from discovering God’s recipe for our life. The one designed with your wiring, your purpose, and His timing in mind.

When the recipe doesn’t fit, life starts to feel off—even if it “looks” right from the outside.

You might feel burned out, anxious, disconnected, or stuck doing all the right things with none of the right results. Your children might struggle in systems that don’t understand them. Your family might be doing its best, yet still feel like it's always on edge.

That’s the cost of following someone else’s instructions—when what you really needed was a completely different set of ingredients, a different pace, or even a different goal.

And here’s the hard truth: the world rarely asks what your recipe is. It rarely honors neurodiversity, spiritual design, or the quieter voice of God. It pushes for sameness, performance, and speed. It rarely makes space for depth, rest, or truth.

Here’s the key: you don’t have to keep cooking with someone else’s plan.

God has a recipe for your life—and your family’s. He knows what you need. His path brings peace, not pressure. He invites you to walk with Him toward wholeness, not burnout. That’s part of what we do at Blueprints for Life. Together, we can uncover what’s not working, listen for God’s invitations, and walk toward clarity, calm, and a deep sense of alignment. What might feel like a life challenge may simply be the wrong recipe—or the wrong blueprint.

What recipe have you been following—and is it truly nourishing you and your family?

If you’re ready to pause, reassess, and explore what a life built with God could look like for you and your family, I’d love to walk with you—not to fix you, but to help you uncover what’s already true.
